Glossary

The trade words BudTrader uses, in plain terms. Attribute labels on listings and forms carry these definitions when you hover or focus them.

Adult-use: Cannabis sold to adults 21 and over under a state's adult-use (recreational) license, as opposed to medical.Example: A California cultivator licensed for adult-use only cannot sell to a medical-only dispensary in a state that separates the two.Where you see it: The Markets line on company profiles, and the Adult Use Only search filter.
Batch: A single production run of a product, tested and tracked as one unit; every listing on BudTrader belongs to a batch.Example: "Batch 2409-A, 120 lb, harvested 3 September, COA attached."Where you see it: Listing forms and certificates of analysis.
Biomass: Bulk plant material sold for extraction rather than for smoking: trim, shake and small buds.Example: "2,000 lb of outdoor biomass, 14% total THC, $35 per lb, for hydrocarbon extraction."Where you see it: The Flower category (Trim, Shake & Biomass) and manufacturers' wanted requests.
Bulk: Sold by weight (pound, kilogram, gram) for a buyer to package or process; the opposite of finished, retail-packaged goods.Example: "Bulk distillate, 1 kg jars, 92% THC" is bulk; "1 g distillate cartridges, case of 100" is finished.Where you see it: The Form filter on search and the unit on every price.
Case: The shipping unit for finished goods: a fixed number of retail units in one box, priced per case or per unit.Example: "Case of 50 × 1 g cartridges, $600 per case ($12 per unit), MOQ 5 cases."Where you see it: Finished-goods listings and the Wholesale Price Index.
Co-packing: A licensed manufacturer produces and packages a product for another company under that company's brand; also called toll processing when the client supplies the material.Example: A brand sends 50 kg of distillate to a co-packer, who returns 40,000 filled cartridges in the brand's packaging.Where you see it: Manufacturer profiles (Services) and manufacturing requests.
COA: Certificate of analysis: a licensed lab's report on a batch (potency, contaminants, terpenes). Every listing on BudTrader can carry one, shown to licensed buyers.Example: A buyer opens the COA before asking about price to check total THC and the pass on pesticides.Where you see it: Listing pages (licensed buyers), the testing request board, listing forms.
Crude: Unrefined cannabis oil straight from extraction, before winterisation and distillation; an input for manufacturers, not a finished product.Example: "Ethanol crude, 60% THC, 20 kg lots, $900 per kg."Where you see it: The Concentrates category (Crude & Unrefined).
Cure: The slow drying of harvested flower over weeks so moisture and chlorophyll leave evenly; a well-cured lot smells and burns better than a rushed one.Example: "Hang-dried 14 days, jar-cured 4 weeks, 11% moisture."Where you see it: Flower listing attributes.
Distillate: Refined cannabis oil with most of the plant compounds removed, usually 85–95% THC, nearly odourless; the base of most cartridges and edibles.Example: "Distillate, 90%+ THC, 1 kg, $1,400."Where you see it: The Concentrates category (Distillate & Refined Oil) and the Vapes attributes.
Distributor: A licensee that moves product between licensed businesses, and in some states collects testing and taxes; in California nothing reaches a retailer without one.Example: A brand names its distributor on its BudTrader profile; the distributor's license is the one carrying the product.Where you see it: The Distributors directory, brand profiles (Distributed by), distribution requests.
Fresh frozen: Flower frozen within hours of harvest, never dried, sold to makers of live resin and live rosin.Example: "Fresh frozen, whole plant, 500 lb, vacuum-sealed, cold chain required."Where you see it: The Flower category (Fresh Frozen) and the cold-chain option on logistics requests.
Harvest date: The day the flower was cut; buyers read freshness from it, and some states require it on the label.Example: A retailer passes on a lot with a harvest date nine months old.Where you see it: Flower listing attributes.
Isolate: A single cannabinoid purified to a powder or crystal (CBD isolate, CBN isolate), used as an ingredient.Example: "CBN isolate, 99%, 100 g minimum."Where you see it: The Concentrates category (Cannabinoid Isolates).
License to license: BudTrader's rule: every company on the marketplace holds a state cannabis license checked against the state record, and trades only with other licensees in its state.Example: A licensed manufacturer in Michigan sees Michigan sellers' prices and no one else's.Where you see it: Everywhere: the license badge, the gate on prices, the directory.
Live resin: A concentrate extracted from fresh-frozen flower with hydrocarbons, prized for terpenes; "live rosin" is the solventless equivalent.Example: "Live resin sauce, 78% THC, 7% terpenes, 1 g jars, case of 50."Where you see it: Concentrates and Vapes attributes.
Lot: A quantity of one product offered as a single sale, usually one batch or part of one; a listing is a lot with a price.Example: "Lot 41: 120 lb indoor flower, one strain, one harvest."Where you see it: Listing titles and the Wanted Board.
Manifest: The state-required shipping document listing every item, weight and license involved in a transfer; nothing moves between licensees without one.Example: The transporter's driver carries the manifest; the receiving retailer checks it against the cases.Where you see it: Logistics requests (special handling) and offer terms.
Medical: Cannabis sold to registered patients under a state's medical program; some states license it separately from adult-use, with different taxes and potency limits.Example: A medical-only manufacturer in a two-program state ticks Medical on its profile and appears under the Medical Only filter.Where you see it: Company profiles (Markets) and the Medical Only search filter.
Microbusiness: A single license (in some states) covering cultivation, manufacturing, distribution and retail at a small scale.Example: A microbusiness grows 5,000 sq ft, makes pre-rolls and sells them from its own storefront.Where you see it: The Microbusinesses directory; the Activities on its profile.
MOQ: Minimum order quantity: the smallest amount a seller will sell at the listed price.Example: "$800 per lb, MOQ 10 lb" means a 5 lb order is not on offer at that price.Where you see it: Every listing with a price; offers.
Net terms: Payment due a set number of days after delivery (net 15, net 30) rather than on receipt; agreed between licensees, never handled by BudTrader.Example: "Net 30 for accounts with two clean orders; COD before that."Where you see it: Offer terms and conversations.
Pre-roll: A ready-rolled joint sold as a finished unit; infused pre-rolls add concentrate.Example: "1 g pre-rolls, 5-pack, case of 20 packs, $110 per case."Where you see it: The Pre-Rolls category.
Rosin: A concentrate pressed from flower or hash with heat and pressure and no solvent.Example: "Hash rosin, 73% THC, cold-cured, 1 g jars."Where you see it: Concentrates attributes.
Sample: A small quantity of a lot sent to a licensed buyer before an order, where state rules allow; the usual first step in wholesale.Example: A retailer asks for a 3.5 g sample of each of three strains before ordering 20 lb of one.Where you see it: The Samples available switch on listings and search.
Shake: Loose flower fragments left after handling; smokeable, cheaper than buds, often sold for pre-rolls.Example: "Indoor shake, 22% THC, $150 per lb, 50 lb lots."Where you see it: The Flower category (Trim, Shake & Biomass).
Smalls: Small buds (popcorn) sorted out of a harvest; full-strength, lower priced, sold for pre-rolls and value bags.Example: "Indoor smalls, same batch as the A-grade, $400 per lb."Where you see it: The Cut attribute on flower listings.
Terpenes: The aromatic compounds that give a strain its smell and much of its character; a lab reports the total percentage and the main ones.Example: "2.8% total terpenes, limonene and caryophyllene dominant."Where you see it: COAs and concentrate listings.
Tincture: A liquid cannabis extract taken under the tongue, dosed in milligrams per millilitre.Example: "1,000 mg THC tincture, 30 ml, case of 24."Where you see it: The Edibles category (Tinctures & Sublinguals).
Total THC: THC plus the THC that THCA becomes when heated (THCA × 0.877): the number states put on the label and the one BudTrader's THC filter uses.Example: "2% THC and 28% THCA" is about 26.5% total THC.Where you see it: The THC filter, listing attributes, COAs.
Track and trace: The state system (Metrc in most states) that follows every plant and package from seed to sale by tag; listings must match it.Example: A manufacturing request asks for "Metrc tags on every batch".Where you see it: Compliance requirements on requests.
Trim: The leaves and small pieces cut from buds after harvest; the main input for extraction and infused products.Example: "Sugar trim, 300 lb, frozen, $45 per lb."Where you see it: The Flower category (Trim, Shake & Biomass).
White label: A manufacturer's existing product sold under your brand; private label is your own formula made on their line.Example: A new brand launches gummies by white-labelling a co-packer's recipe with its own packaging.Where you see it: Manufacturer profiles and manufacturing requests.
Wholesale price: The price one licensee pays another, per unit of weight or per case, before taxes and distribution; BudTrader's index reports its middle and range by state and product.Example: "Indoor flower in California: median $850 per lb, range $600–$1,300 this month."Where you see it: Every gated price, and the Wholesale Price Index.
